Kinds of Drives Supported

Any modern drive is supported, from RAIDs to small SSD's. The units have USB Type C and Thunderbolt 3 ports and work best with drives that share those connections. USB Type C and Thunderbolt 3 are backwards compatible but require adapter which we do not supply.

Please Note: We do not support OWC's Soft Raid Software.
Drives that require it will not mount or work with any Constellation system. Some OWC drives do not require it, but we recommend that you check before purchasing.

Plugging In / What to Expect

When you plug in a drive you will hear a sound. The AI will communicate with you through sounds that will remind you of your favorite little robot from the movies. This means that you can easily tell if it has seen a drive, if there is a problem or if it has completed a task. With very little experience you'll get to understand it.

The unit does not have any operational mic, so you cannot talk to it and it cannot hear you.

It will exclusively use emails to communicate details in writing. The sounds are to give you instant, simple feedback.

New Drives

To enhance security the unit will request authorization from a system engineer prior to accepting a drive it has never seen before. We will assign it as a shuttle or a backup, or tell the unit to ignore it.

You can plug a drive in ahead of time and we can mark it for use, which might save you time.

Drives that are unknown do not produce alerts via email, but the unit will still acknowledge the connection via an audible alert.
